I saw a guy desecrating a grave site….

potterchurch3Once, I saw a guy using the restroom on someone’s grave site.  The thought totally repulsed me, and the memory of it has not escaped me.  Looking back, I think we as followers of Jesus have basically done this by not reaching out and sharing the love of Christ to those around us.  Truth is, we will one day look up and begin to see ourselves or others pass on and actually be buried.  People that are in our lives for a purpose will go to the grave unchanged, some times because of our lack of response.  In a sense, when we don’t share our lives with them and care about them and open up to them, we are essentially doing the same thing to them as that guy and that gravesite.

Graphic image? Maybe. But what could be more graphic than an amazing God who has paid a huge price for mankind by what was done through Jesus Christ, and a life that does nothing more than sit on that gift and keep it inside.  No life change, no passion.  Just a belief , no change, no love, nothing more.

How crazy would it seem if someone walked up and gave you super hero powers to fly?  I’ve always thought this would be really sweet.  And just like that, you just fly. So you have this gift now.  What if your response what….”Hey thanks,” then you never set foot off the ground?  You just keep walking around.  Like, think of all the people you could help, the things you could do.  And your response is…..nothing.

So seriously, if this is you, I may not know you or know your story.  If not, I’d love to hear it some time!  I’m not trying to make you feel guilty; I experience the same lack of response as you some days.  I am imperfect like every one else.  I’d like to encourage to consider the amazing gift you’ve been given.  Reflect on that sacrifice that was made.   Reflect on the promise that was made that God would be given to you through his Spirit, so that you may continue the work of Christ on earth and do “greater things than these.” What will you do in response?  How could life be different?  Who could be changed as a result of your influence?  Does your life look any different because of Christ? This is the way it could be!
